PEOPLE POWER: The Mantra Group's success in an indigenous employment initiative has earned praise in a national Human Resources publication. In HR Monthly, Mantra Group is highlighted as a case study for an employer signing the Indigenous Employment Covenant. A trial in Cairns to employ indigenous Australians as housekeepers has been a great success, with four of the five people employed, still with the group. The idea was partly driven by corporate social responsibility and partly by the desire to find a more stable workforce in housekeeping, an area which had a huge staff turnover due to a high reliance on international workers. Eventually the Mantra Group would like to recruit indigenous workers in roles in food and beverage and supervisory positions at Mantra resorts in Port Douglas and Palm Cove, as well as Cairns.
