Peppers Silo Hotel

Launceston’s Peppers Silo Hotel is leading local industry in the battle against food waste by turning kitchen scraps into compost.

As one of the early commercial adopters of Launceston City Council’s Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) system, the hotel is on-track to divert around 24 tonnes of waste from landfill per year.

Hotel General Manager, Paul Seaman, said participation in the FOGO program was a simple way to make a big impact in the hotel’s broader efforts to reduce its environmental footprint.

“We’ve been weighing the bins each day and our early calculations indicate that we’ll be sending about two tonnes per month to Council’s composting facility,” Mr Seaman said.

“We’re not just talking about veggie scraps, the system can also take dairy, meat, bones, coffee grounds and cardboard packaging, so in a large hospitality business like ours it all adds up,” he said.

The collected FOGO material is sent to Launceston Waste Centre’s purpose-built Organics Processing Facility to be turned into compost, which is then used on local parks and nature reserves.

Head Chef, Thomas Pirker, said the operational simplicity of the FOGO system made it easy for businesses to implement.

“There’s not a lot of extra training or new processes involved, it’s really just a matter of getting the bins and getting started,” Mr Pirker said.

“In our industry we talk a lot about supporting local food systems and I think an important part of that is taking care of the environment that supports that food production,” he said.

“Not only does this system reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill, the compost helps to build up the quality of soils, making them more drought resistant and nutrient rich, which is another great outcome.”

Adopting the FOGO system is just one of Peppers Silo Hotel’s sustainability initiatives, with the hotel also strongly committed to local supply chains and service providers.

Food Director, Massimo Mele, said he was inspired by a workshop on sustainable food systems he attended at Parliament House earlier this year and was working with the team towards halving the property’s food waste by 2030. “I think that’s a goal we can realistically achieve and we’re super excited to be taking on a leadership role in this space,” Mr Mele said.

Peppers Silo Hotel, owned and developed by Errol Stewart, is part of hospitality group Accor, which has committed to the global elimination of single-use plastics in its guest experience by 2022.

World-renown high-wire walker, Blake Wallenda, from The Flying Wallendas family, made history on 17 February when he completed a skywalk between two Ala Moana Hotel by Mantra hotel towers – 15 storeys up.

The skywalk was his most daring act to date ― and a first for Hawaii.

The event was staged to launch The Super American Circus tour in Hawaii, which features Blake Wallenda as one of the headlining performers.

“This year, our hotel celebrates its 50th anniversary and we are very proud to continue our commitment towards supporting family events that showcase world-class performances in our local community,” Mr Erickson said.

Mantra Mackay

Accor has further increased its footprint in the central Queensland market having acquired a franchise agreement with Mandala Asset Solutions for their recently purchased Mackay Marina Hotel.

The eight-storey, 79-room hotel will rebrand as Mantra Mackay on 15 December 2019, becoming Accor’s second property in the central Queensland hub of Mackay, joining the Group’s 152-room ibis Mackay hotel.

Mantra Mackay, which was constructed in 2005 and stands on a prime waterfront site offering views over the Coral Sea, also features a restaurant and bar, fitness centre, swimming pool, four conference and meetings rooms and a business centre.

Accor Chief Operating Officer Pacific, Simon McGrath, said the acquisition of Mantra Mackay allowed the Group to increase its offering in one of Queensland’s fastest growing coastal cities and complement its existing network.

“Mantra Mackay is one of the best properties in Mackay and this acquisition speaks to our confidence in the city's future and the importance of securing well positioned product in market,” said Mr McGrath.

"We are excited to again partner with Mandala Asset Solutions on this property and believe it has great potential to service a number of markets."

Mantra Mackay is the second franchise agreement signed between Accor and Mandala Asset Solutions, joining Mercure Albury on the Victorian border.

Mandala Asset Solutions Principal John Zeckendorf said he sees a big upside for hospitality in Mackay.

“We are confident this well-appointed property will operate with great success under Accor and provide travellers with a quality accommodation and conferencing option in Mackay,” said Mr Zeckendorf.

Mantra Mackay is the city’s only hotel with marina views. It is also only a short drive from Mackay’s city centre and 20 minutes from Mackay Airport.

Mantra Epping becoming an icon of the North

The new $80 million Mantra hotel development is fast becoming one of the biggest drawcards of the northern suburbs.

Developed by Too Build operated by Accor, the 214-room, 4.5-star hotel and adjoining Beer Republic Brewery & Republic Tavern has been designed to capitalise and support the needs of Melbourne’s northern suburbs.

Too Build Managing Director Ian Wilson said the development was not only providing 120 local ongoing jobs at the hotel and the Beer Republic Brewery & Republic Tavern but creating a hospitality destination.

“The hotel, Brewery and the Tavern are already proving very popular with local businesses and the community,” Mr Wilson said.

“We know that over the next 35 years, Melbourne is projected to become Australia’s largest city, with its population expected to almost double and the City of Whittlesea forecast to grow by 69 per cent by 2041. With this in mind, we worked hard to build a welcoming hotel and stylish dining offering in a thriving part of Melbourne.”

The collaboration was undertaken with one of Australia’s largest construction companies Hacer Group, who were engaged to complete the project build.

Accor Chief Operating Officer Pacific, Simon McGrath, said the Group is thrilled to partner with Too Build, a developer who has the same commitment to quality as Accor.

Mantra Epping becoming an icon of the North

“We’re always looking for ways to reinvent the hotel model and Mantra Epping stands out. Though only recently opened, the hotel is already being used by major corporations and businesses including the Melbourne Markets,” Mr McGrath said.

“Too Build should be very proud of the long-term investment they’ve made into the future of tourism in Melbourne’s booming northern suburbs, and we look forward to enjoying a successful partnership together.”

Mr Wilson said beyond just building a hotel and entertainment venue, Too Build wanted to create a narrative that would draw in the community. That’s why much of the work of the hotel was undertaken by local businesses.

“The Tavern has also sourced locally when it comes to the wine and beer selection outside what it brews onsite, partnering with many of the state’s best local microbrewers,” he said.

“What’s exciting to me is to create something I know the local community – traders and residents alike – will really want to spend time in whether they have guests staying at the hotel or not,” Mr Wilson said.

Mantra Epping occupies a prime corner position at 250 Cooper Street within the prestigious Northpoint Enterprise Park at Epping, Melbourne’s fastest growing expansion corridor just 18km north of the CBD and is just 15 minutes from Melbourne Airport.

The hotel features a selection of light-filled, contemporary Hotel Rooms, One Bedroom Apartments and Two Bedroom Interconnecting Apartments.

All guest rooms offer understated elegance with modern décor, air conditioning, tea and coffee making facilities, in-room Wi-Fi internet access, and Foxtel including iQ Chromecast for a personalised entertainment experience.

The hotel’s spacious One Bedroom Apartments feature kitchen facilities, a European laundry, private balcony, and offer the flexibility to adjoin with a Hotel Room to create a spacious Two Bedroom option for families and friends alike.

Guests will also enjoy the convenience of the hotel’s extensive onsite amenities and services, including the Trader Café, Restaurant and Bar, Republic Tavern and Beer Republic Brewery, a fully-equipped gymnasium, 24-hour reception, and open-air secure car parking including two general electric vehicle charging points and two Tesla electric charging points.

Mantra Epping also offers state-of-the-art conferencing and meeting facilities, which caters for all event types, from board meetings, to conferences, events and weddings for up to 500 attendees in the pillarless ballroom with floor to ceiling windows. A team of event coordinators are also onsite to assist with event planning and execution.

Guests included The Adnate namesake artist Matt Adnate, Accor Apartment & Leases Senior Vice President Operations Mark Hodge, hotel developers George & Peter Atzemis, model Nathan McGuire (and subject of the hotel’s mural and foyer portraits) and Piiata Heenan (subject of Adnate’s Maori portrait in the hotel laneway).

Acclaimed Australian street artist, Sofles, also donned a virtual reality headset and hand controls (virtual spray cans) to showcase his talents on a big screen for a crowd of awe-inspired guests, who were also encouraged to explore their VR graffiti skills.

Accor Chief Operating Officer Pacific, Simon McGrath, commented, “We are very pleased to partner with the Atzemis family, the developers and owners of The Adnate, on this iconic property for Perth and our Group. The Adnate namesake artist Matt Adnate said: “If I wasn’t up there painting I’d be absolutely scared but, because I’m painting, I feel completely comfortable. Most of the subjects in my paintings are people who I have met and personally photographed. The best part of my work is the experiences and the education I receive from the people I meet. It has taken me on a journey that I never expected and has completely changed my life.”

Mega Mural

“I see this hotel as a beautiful canvas to tell a story about Perth’s cultural and community connection through portraiture and traditional elements.” Adnate

Accor has opened the doors to its ninth Art Series hotel, The Adnate, which stands adjacent to Perth’s luxury and lifestyle destination of King Street in the city centre.

Welcoming its first guests today, the 250-room colourful and soulful hotel is an open invitation of hospitality and discovery and promises to inspire guests with ‘the art of dreaming big’.

Inspired by the powerful multicultural portraiture of renowned Australian big wall street artist, Matt Adnate, the hotel features one of the world’s largest ‘mega murals’ – a monumental artwork spanning 25 storeys; the largest ever painted by Adnate and the tallest mural in the Southern Hemisphere.

Beyond earning Adnate a place in the record books, the real purpose of the hotel’s sky-high external mural is to highlight Perth’s cultural history and community.

The mega mural, which took Matt one month to complete, features three large-scale portraits - including the face of a Noongar man, an Indian woman and a Mediterranean woman - all created with spray paint.

Guests will also feel greeted with awe-inducing artwork and detail from namesake artist Adnate around every corner of the hotel.

In the lobby, two original canvases and a large-scale mural above the hotel’s main staircase welcome guests, while 650 giclée prints of 30 of Adnate’s most-recognised works adorn the walls and halls of the 27-storey hotel.

Adjacent to the hotel, Adnate has also created a spectacular 50-metre-long laneway mural.

The striking $90 million landmark hotel also features a gymnasium and the Miami-style Hyde Perth Kitchen + Cocktails (opening to the public in mid-October), which hugs a centrepiece outdoor heated pool area on level one of the hotel.

Adnate’s artwork also takes centre stage in all Studio King and Studio Twin rooms with design-inspired, boutique interiors and reproductions of the artists most recognised works, complemented by a purpose-made, canvas inspired bed runner.

A selection of Studio King and Studio Twin rooms can also be joined to create a Two Bedroom Interconnecting studio suite.

The Adnate is the first Art Series hotel dedicated to street art and heralds the arrival of the Art Series brand in Western Australia – Australia’s only boutique hotel brand creating art-inspired experiences for guests.

Signature art experiences at The Adnate also include the brand’s famous art tours, in-room art channels and art libraries to get up close and personal with Adnate’s work. Branded courtesy cars and Lekker bicycles will be available to explore all that Perth has to offer and further afield.

To celebrate the opening of The Adnate, Art Series has released an opening special, which is from $179* per night. To book, visit artserieshotels.com.au/adnate

The Adnate is Accor's ninth Art Series hotel in Australia, complementing the brand’s existing hotel portfolio - Melbourne hotels The Olsen, South Yarra; The Blackman, St Kilda Road; The Cullen, Prahan; The Larwill, Parkville; The Chen, Box Hill, along with The Watson in Walkerville, South Australia and The Johnson and The Fantauzzo in Brisbane, Queensland.

“Our collection of Art Series hotels transcends the traditional hotel experience by masterfully uniting Australia’s contemporary art culture with a boutique hospitality experience. The Adnate is a seamless combination of art, design and functionality. It’s a powerful representation of contemporary creativity, with connected and inspiring spaces for guests to discover. We’re so excited to share this stunning property with guests visiting Perth from other parts of Western Australia, interstate and overseas,” Accor Chief Operating Officer Pacific, Simon McGrath said.

Hyde Perth Kitchen + Cocktails will be Perth’s chicest restaurant and bar, boasting an outdoor pool, sun loungers and DJ decks. Casual by day, classy by night, this laid-back venue, with music and entertainment at its core, will be a playground for after-work drinks or long, lazy lunches with friends or colleagues.

The opening of Hyde Perth Kitchen + Cocktails will be a WA first for the HYDE brand, which is widely known for its iconic celebrity-packed venues in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Miami.

Hyde Perth Kitchen + Cocktails’ interior is the vision of designer Carlie Milosevic who has evoked her signature style with an urban chic vibe fitting for a lively pool bar and restaurant. Carlie Milosevic (formerly Waterman) came to prominence in Australia, first as Australia’s Fashion Graduate of the Year (2012), swiftly followed with her highly acclaimed design of Hacienda Sydney, now recognised as one of The World’s Most Instagrammable Bars LINK.  Milosevic most recently designed Hyde Perth Kitchen + Cocktails’ sister venue, Hyde Paradiso which opened earlier this year on the Gold Coast LINK.

Reflecting on Perth’s natural beauty, pastel sunsets and picturesque beaches, the venue’s neutral colour scheme with pops of colour will create a timeless and relaxed alfresco space. Paying homage to the sites’ previous tenant, Musgrove Music, the venue will also draw inspiration from the jazz age of the 1920’s and 30’s.

An island bar will frame the view out towards the pool, and features distinguished materials such as a Calcutta viola marble with a busy burgundy vein. Bi-fold doors open up to the leafy pool deck creating a seamless indoor-outdoor space, quite unique and enviable in Perth CBD.

Commandeering 550 square metres of space, both indoors and outdoors, on level one of Perth’s hottest new hotel, The Adnate, Hyde Perth Kitchen + Cocktails will boast versatile seating options and a private dining room, which will be stand out features for event bookers. A flexible menu will also be on offer to cater for special occasions through to corporate events.

Tim Philips-Johansson of Sweet&Chilli has curated an impressive drinks list including a large cocktail list as well as oversize cocktails to share… and the wine list will be just as impressive. Tim is Australia's most awarded bartender bringing 17 years of experience to Hyde Perth Kitchen + Cocktails. HYDE is known globally for large format drinks designed to share and Hyde Perth Kitchen + Cocktails will maintain this focus on fun, flavoursome drinks that can be enjoyed anytime day and night.

There’s also a lot to choose from on Hyde Perth Kitchen + Cocktails’ wide-roaming menu of familiars and favourites, such as street-food snacks, to hearty mains, pizzas and an entire bottomless fries menu. Peru-born, Moroccan-travelled Chef Danny Sanchez has crisscrossed the Mediterranean (Greece, Turkey and Morocco) to produce an unbelievably distinctive and delicious menu.

For those feeling the hump day slump, Hyde Perth Kitchen + Cocktails will offer mid-week specials and for those looking to wind down on the weekend, HYDE’s famous pool parties will be in full swing.

Hyde Perth Kitchen + Cocktails is located on level one of The Adnate (900 Hay Street, WA 6000).

Accor’s newest Art Series hotel, The Adnate, will also open in October. Inspired by the powerful multicultural portraiture of renowned Australian big wall street artist Matt Adnate, the hotel features one of the world’s largest ‘mega murals’ – a monumental artwork spanning 25 storeys; the largest ever painted by Adnate. Colourful and soulful, the 250-room hotel is an open invitation of hospitality and discovery. In the lobby, two original canvases greet with awe-inducing detail, while two large-scale murals and 650 giclée prints of Adnate’s most-recognised works weave their way throughout.

Mega Mural

Perth’s hottest new hotel, The Adnate, is about to reach a sky-high milestone in its development with its 25-storey ‘Mega Mural’ nearing completion.

The imposing mural by the hotel’s namesake artist, Australian big-wall painter Matt Adnate, will be one of the world’s tallest murals and will bring a striking new artistic feature to Perth’s CBD.

Matt’s monumental works, including painting towering grain solos and a 20-storey housing complex in Melbourne’s Collingwood, have earned the street artist international acclaim in recent years.

His Mega Mural at The Adnate far eclipses his work in Collingwood, which became the tallest mural in the Southern Hemisphere when it was unveiled. In fact, The Adnate’s new record-holding mural will stand just seven storeys shorter than the world's tallest mural in Toronto, which measures 32 storeys.

Beyond earning Matt a place in the record books, the real purpose of this sky-high external mural is to highlight Perth’s cultural history and community.

The Mega Mural, which is on track to be completed next week and took Matt one month to finish, will be his biggest yet and will feature three large-scale portraits - including the face of a Noongar man, an Indian woman and a Mediterranean woman – all created solely with spray paint.

"I'm taking different faces to create a story that runs the whole way down the mural," Matt said. "Each face tells a different history and background. It will depict the past through the cultural representation in the subject’s dressing elements, the present with contemporary faces, and the future as the subjects are the youth of today."

Mega Mural

Matt will also be collaborating with a local Indigenous artist on a 50-metre-long exterior laneway mural and, inside the hotel, is contributing a mural above the hotel’s main staircase.

Two original canvases and up to 650 reproductions of 30 of Matt’s most recognised works from around the world will adorn the walls and halls of the hotel development by George Atzemis.

In addition to this vast array of Matt’s art, the hotel will add 250 guest rooms to Perth’s burgeoning hotel supply, a gymnasium, function room, centrepiece pool area on its first floor, and a chic new state-first food and beverage destination, serving Mediterranean cuisine and the city’s best cocktails.

Scheduled to open its doors to guests in October, The Adnate will be the first Art Series hotel dedicated to street art and heralds the arrival of the Art Series brand in Western Australia – Australia’s only boutique hotel brand creating art-inspired experiences for guests.

Accor Chief Operating Officer Pacific, Simon McGrath, said The Adnate is destined to become an iconic landmark in Perth’s CBD.

“You won't need to book a stay to enjoy Matt’s exterior murals,” Mr McGrath said. “His soaring Mega Mural on the entire east-facing side of the hotel faces the city for all to enjoy.”

Signature art experiences at The Adnate will include the brand’s famous art tours, in-room art channels and art libraries. Branded courtesy cars and Lekker bicycles will be available to explore all that Perth has to offer and further afield.

To celebrate the near completion of Matt’s Mega Mural, Art Series has released an opening special rate for The Adnate, which is from $179* per night. To book, visit www.artserieshotels.com.au/adnate

Once open, The Adnate will be Accor's ninth Art Series hotel in Australia, complementing the brand’s existing hotel portfolio - Melbourne hotels The Olsen, South Yarra; The Blackman, St Kilda Road; The Cullen, Prahan; The Larwill, Parkville; The Chen, Box Hill, along with The Watson in Walkerville, South Australia and The Johnson and The Fantauzzo in Brisbane, Queensland.

Edwin Wine Bar & Cellar

Far from sitting in the shadow of Melbourne’s world-famous food and wine scene, Edwin Wine Bar & Cellar at the new Shadow Play by Peppers at Southbank shines the spotlight exclusively on Victorian food and beverages.

Developed by luxury property developer Jonathan Hallinan of BPM Corp, the hotel and restaurant’s aesthetic and offering reflects his and his company’s renowned style and impeccable attention to detail.

The décor is dark and seductive yet the menu and the philosophy behind it is a breath of fresh air, according to Shadow Play by Peppers’ General Manager Alistair Munro.

“Our Head Chef Ritesh Patil and Sommelier Yu Kurosawa have created an extraordinary dining experience that celebrates the diversity of Victoria and Victorians,” said Mr Munro.

“Our menu is not just curated from the inspiration of Victoria’s best wine and produce, its philosophy is based on gender equity and fostering a relationship with local producers.”

Resident Sommelier Yu Kurosawa is one of the growing number of female Sommeliers in Australia and says that every wine has a story, not just about how it tastes and what food it should be paired with, but how and where the grapes were grown and the individual style of the winemaker.

“Our menu features wine from each of Victoria’s 21 wine regions with an almost equal gender balance between male and female winemakers,” said Ms Kurosawa.

Edwin Wine Bar & Cellar

“We hang our hat on the fact our wine list has been curated to be filled with Victorian wines, including some of Australia’s most well-known and sought after wine labels such as Crawford River, Bindi, Yarra Yering and Sorrenberg just to name a few.

“In fact, our entire drinks menu is locally sourced including water and soft drinks from Daylesford, orange juice from Caulfield and soda and mixers from Kyneton.”

Spirits including gin, vodka, whisky, rum, vermouth and liqueurs are also produced in Victoria.

“Not only does Victoria produce the best seafood, meats, cheeses and local produce in Australia but we have some great local producers here who deserve to step out of the shadows of being just a supplier and be seen as co-creators of our menu of excellence,” said Chef Patil.

The menu highlights its locally cured in Daylesford salumi selection and celebrates cheese supplied by Marie at Emerald Deli at South Melbourne markets.

Chef Patil’s food preparation style is one of simplicity with just four or five ingredients on a plate.

“It is much more powerful to have each ingredient speak for itself.  I don’t overcomplicate my dishes because this just drowns each ingredient’s contribution to a dish.”

Edwin Wine Bar & Cellar is located at 308-320 City Road, Southbank and is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Accor announces namesake artist for new Art Series hotel in Perth

Accor announces namesake artist for new Art Series hotel in Perth– opening October 2019

Accor has announced its new Art Series hotel in Perth will be named after one of Australian street art's most influential big wall painters – Matt Adnate.

Matt is an artist who creates his portraits with spray paint. His monumental works portraying Indigenous people have captivated viewers around the world… and now, with the arrival of The Adnate, Perth will be home to one of the world’s tallest murals, and the first Art Series hotel dedicated to street art.

The imposing 25-storey ‘Mega Mural’ on the west-facing side of the hotel is the largest artwork Matt has painted on a building and, once completed, will feature faces which represent the cultural history and community of Perth.

This, along with a ‘Laneway Mural’, which spans more than 50m long and features multiple portraits from Matt and a collaboration with a local Indigenous artist, and Matt’s interior ‘Staircase Mural’, will completely transform the hotel both inside and out.

“I see this hotel as a beautiful canvas to tell a story about Perth’s cultural and community connection through portraiture and traditional elements,” Matt said.

“My Mega Mural will feature three large-scale portraits. It will represent the past through the cultural representation in the subject’s dressing elements, the present with contemporary faces, and the future as the subjects are the youth of today.

“What excites me most about this collaboration with Art Series is the opportunity to capture the stories and emotions of my subjects and to share them with a new audience in the west.

“I’ve always held a personal connection towards the First Nation people I paint. Whether it be a connection to country or a strong emphasis on spirituality, I believe we have a lot to learn from these people.”

Accor announces namesake artist for new Art Series hotel in Perth

Two original canvases and up to 650 reproductions of 30 of Matt’s most recognised works from around the world will adorn the walls and halls of the 250-room hotel development by George Atzemis.

“To have an Art Series hotel dedicated to showcasing my work is an honour,” he said. “In more ways than one, this collaboration with Art Series is a high point in my career and I cannot wait for the doors to open in October,” he concluded.

Matt has already commenced work on the murals and passers-by are already stopping and soaking it in.

Accor Chief Operating Officer Pacific, Simon McGrath, said The Adnate is destined to become an iconic landmark in Perth’s CBD.

“The Adnate’s Mega Mural will face the city centre for all to enjoy, and we are thrilled to announce Matt Adnate as the namesake artist for our ninth Art Series hotel in Perth,” Mr McGrath said.

“Matt is a next generation artist who reflects the expansive view on Australian art. His unique artistic style and experience with painting large-scale murals in main cities around Australia and the world made him the ideal namesake artist for the scale and design of our newest Art Series hotel in Perth.

“This hotel heralds the arrival of the Art Series brand in Western Australia and demonstrates our commitment to growing this iconic Australian hotel brand – Australia’s only boutique hotel brand creating art inspired experiences for guests.”

A seamless combination of art, design and functionality, the hotel will be a powerful representation of contemporary creativity, with connected and inspiring spaces for guests to discover.

The Adnate will also be home to a chic new international food and beverage destination, serving Mediterranean cuisine and the city’s best cocktails. The venue will be centred around the hotel’s stunning pool area on level one, positioned directly above Hay Street.

The hotel will also feature a gymnasium and a function room, fully equipped with state-of-the-art audio-visual technology.

Art Series Hotels transformed the Australian market when it launched in 2009. Signature art experiences at The Adnate will include the infamous art tours, in-room art channels and art libraries. Branded Smart Cars and Lekker bicycles will be available to explore all that Perth has to offer and further afield.

The Art Series portfolio includes Melbourne hotels The Olsen, South Yarra; The Blackman, St Kilda Road; The Cullen, Prahan; The Larwill, Parkville; The Chen, Box Hill, along with The Watson in Walkerville, South Australia and The Johnson and The Fantauzzo in Brisbane, Queensland.

The Adnate will add to Accor’s growing presence in Perth of 14 properties.

ACCOR OFFICIALLY OPENS SHADOW PLAY BY PEPPERS IN MELBOURNE

Melbourne’s newest luxury hotel, Shadow Play by Peppers, was officially opened today (27 May) by the Lord Mayor of Melbourne, Sally Capp, in the city’s thriving Southbank arts and entertainment district.

To mark this momentous occasion, the Lord Mayor joined Accor Apartments & Leases Senior Vice President Operations, Mark Hodge, in a formal ribbon cutting ceremony.

Developed by luxury property developer Jonathan Hallinan of BPM Corp, the 46-storey Shadow Play by Peppers hotel features an exquisite selection of spacious one and two bedroom apartments with striking avant garde design elements throughout.

The hotel also boasts the onsite Edwin Wine Bar & Cellar, positioned to be one of Melbourne’s finest food and wine experiences, along with an array of guest spaces including a heated pool, gymnasium, sauna and steam room, guest lounge and library with an adjoining patio, and an enclosed garden space on the 46th floor complete with a freestanding fireplace and commanding bayside views.

Accor Apartments & Leases Senior Vice President Operations, Mark Hodge, said he and the team are proud to have officially opened Accor’s second Peppers hotel in Melbourne.

“Visitors to Southbank can now experience Peppers’ renowned style of service, which is always attentive yet never obtrusive,” Mr Hodge said.

“Shadow Play by Peppers is a landmark hotel with a range of high-end amenities designed to appeal to the city’s increasingly selective global market that is looking for quality, location and facilities of a world-class calibre.

“New hotels in key precincts like this play a critical role in promoting a vibrant visitor economy, while meeting the needs of growing visitor numbers to Melbourne by attracting first-time and returning domestic and international travellers.

“We’re thrilled to partner with local developer BPM Corp on this project, which is a win for the economic growth of Melbourne from both a tourism and jobs creation perspective.”

The Lord Mayor of Melbourne, Sally Capp, said the hotel adds to Melbourne’s reputation for quality accommodation and is a vote of confidence in the city’s tourism industry.

“Shadow Play by Peppers offers understated luxury and will be a drawcard for both local and international guests,” the Lord Mayor said.

“We’re seeing unprecedented investment in hotel developments in Melbourne and luxury accommodation is in particularly high demand.

“Melbourne’s tourism industry is worth $15.7 billion each year and supports thousands of local jobs. This opening is fantastic news for our local tourism and hospitality industries.”

Nestled in the heart of the city and within walking distance to the Eureka Skydeck, Melbourne Arts Centre, the National Gallery of Victoria, Crown Casino, the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre, and the city’s finest shopping and dining precincts, Shadow Play by Peppers offers a stylish urban retreat for leisure and business travellers.
