Mantra GM heads Schoolies working group for a safter Surfers Paradise
With Schoolies from around the country set to descend upon Surfers Paradise again as the end of the school year approaches, a group of like-minded accommodation managers have joined with police and the State Government to put their heads together and help make Surfers Paradise safer.
The Schoolies Accommodation Managers (SAM) Working Group first met last month and elected Neil Munro as Chairperson, who has a wealth of experience in the accommodation industry in his role as General Manager of Mantra Circle on Cavill, and Area Manager for Surfers Paradise Central within the Mantra Group.
“We are a group representing accommodation managers, police and the Department of Communities, working to provide a safe and successful Schoolies in our buildings,” said Mr Munro, whose fellow SAM members include representatives from The Islander Resort Hotel, Alexander Holiday Apartments, Surfers Beachside Holiday Apartments and the Quarterdeck Apartments.
“Initially we have been tasked with a generic set of House Rules, check in and check out procedures, plus we will be producing a set of Best Practices as well.”
The group will be discussing everything from alcohol and drug possession to public nudity, glass bans, noise levels, evictions, numbers permitted on balconies and security companies.
Mr Munro said he was committed to Mantra heading the way in an inclusive and collaborative approach with all accommodation houses and Government agencies, in order to manage the challenges and set common best practices across the region throughout the Schoolies festival.
